Our Story

Located in Bruce County Ontario, our horses live in close quarters with beef cattle on a small hobby farm. To make cleaning and bedding the barn efficient, we have always universally shared a large round bale of straw between all the cattle and horse pens for as long as I can remember. Swapping to shavings was never a thought that made sense to me, especially with our horses having access to their indoor area 24/7 which would certainly create an unruly mess, and create an additional cost that didn’t weigh heavy enough on the ‘pros’ to justify it for us.

Then, after a couple of seasons of fighting uncanny bouts of thrush on my horses, switchgrass bedding was recommended to us by our farrier. He explained how it was antimicrobial, more absorbent, hypoallergenic, and lasted longer than shavings. It would also be much easier to spot clean the bedding vs straw, therefore causing less waste.

So, we gave it a shot.

We immediately noticed that the barn no longer had a lingering odor, our footwear (and horse hooves!) were dry even in an uncleaned pen, there was more ‘cushion’, and voila, dried hooves = the start of thrush recovery. My 29 year old mare also struggles with respiratory issues, which were always heightened on bedding day with straw. Now, the switchgrass bedding causes her zero increased breathing symptoms when bedded. By simply changing their bedding, we are alleviating some additional product costs on respiratory drugs, thrush ailments, and ultimately their wellbeing.

Very quickly, the opportunity to provide and share this superior product to my area arose. Without hesitation, I wanted to spread the word, and the product, to the close horse-people in my life, and local farmers.

We are thrilled to be serving the Grey, Bruce, and Huron counties with an outstanding bedding option for the 4, and 2-legged animals in your life.
